Our government has three main functions. Our government consists of a legislative, an executive, and a judicial branch, with a system of checks and balances among the three branches. We divide power between the federal government and the states. Our government was designed to protect various individual liberties of American citizens. The United States is also a representative democracy. Meaning we elect our representatives into office.

Hope this helps a bit!

The Federal Government is composed of three distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the Federal courts, respectively.
