You didn’t add a image so I am going off my knowledge.

Foliation forms when pressure squeezes the flat or elongate minerals within a rock so they become aligned. Each layer can be as thin as a sheet of paper, or over a meter in thickness.

Foliated Texture

A foliated metamorphic rock will have banded minerals. The mineral flakes will appear to be parallel to the rock and will look layered. When a foliated rock breaks, a thin rock fragment will result.
