RS = 2x - 1
ST = 4x + 7
RT = 60
x= ?
Solution
Since S is the point on the line segment RT,
RT = RS + ST, and
60 = 2x - 1 + 4x + 7
60 = 6x + 6
10 = x + 1
x = 10 - 1
x = 9
