Why is tokyo to los angela’s a longer distance than it appears to be on the map

Answer: I'm not sure I fully understand your question, but usually these types of discrepancies are due to the fact you cannot project a globe on a flat map. This can effect the perceptions of size and shape of land masses, and may impact the impression you have on the distance between Tokyo and LA, for instance.
