Later they became part of slavery which considered to be legal in the Southern states because they were the source of labour. Slaves forced to work in plantations from sunrise to sunset. They were a cheaper substitute from indentured servants. Indentured servants became expensive because it was part of a contract system which allowed them to work for a certain period. The white colonists did not notice the growing unrest among the slaves as colonists gained economic benefits. Slaves were seen as assets, bought and sold as a commodity. They forced to work in fields and torture for punishment.
