When the Union Army invaded the South in 1861 starting the Civil War, it was not about slavery according to President Lincoln. He said the War was about keeping the Union of states intact. But, by the end of the War, it had become about slavery. How and why did that happen? Who made it possible for the purpose of the War to be the end of slavery in the United States?
