this is a very dumb question but what is -1^2? my calculator says its -1 but isnt -1*-1 = 1???? im very confused plzz help

you have to put the number between parenthesis to give you the right answer. the calculator actually taking the minus sign separate from 1 because no brackets . Try (-1)²
