Triangle inequality theorem:

In any triangle, the length of any side must be:

  • less than the sum of the lengths of the other two sides.
  • greater than the difference of the lengths of the other two sides.

For the problem you have:

x must be greater than 8.0 - 2.5 and less than 8.0 + 2.5
