The perimeter of a rectangle is 54 cm and its width is 11 cm longer than its length. What is the width? Show your work using an equation. Write just the width below.

Answer:

19cm

Explanation:

Perimeter =54 cm

let the length be x

the width is 11cm longer than the length so it will be x + 11

and we have 2 lengths and 2 widths in a rectangle, so the equation is:

x+x+x+11cm+x+11cm=54cm

4x+22cm=54cm

4x=54cm-22cm

4x=32cm

divide both sides by 4 to find x

x=8cm

previously I said the length is x and the width is x+11, and we've found the length which is x, so to find the width:

x+11cm

8cm+11cm=19cm
