Roman Catholicism has become more liberal compared with that of the twelfth century.

Nowadays, Roman Catholicism allows divorces for example , however, it still does not allow remarriage. It also accepts birth control.

In the geographical and demographical sense, Roman Catholicism no longer dominates the entirety of Western and Northern Europe like it did in the twelfth century, because of the protestant reformation that came about in the sixteenth century, however, it is still the largest christian denomination, with many followers in the Americas, Africa, and even Asia.
