What was the purpose of the Confederate Battle Flag?

in the civil war the south split from the united states to form the confederation they believed this to be their very own country this was changed after the civil war ended the united states where brought back together after the north won the war now the confederate flag is viewed as a sign of racism and hatred

After their war, their flag was adopted as a symbol of Southern heritage at the same time as it represented slavery and White Supremacy
