A set of 5 numbers is 3, 7, 8, 10, x (where x is a missing number). The mean of these 5 numbers is 6. What is the value of x?

Given data: 3,7,8,10,X

Summation FX= 3+7+8+10+X= 28+x

N(total number of items)= 5

Mean= 6

Finding the value of X,


mean = (summation \: fx)/(n) \\ or \: 6 = (28 + x)/(5) \\ or \: 6 * 5 = 28 + x \\ or \: 30 = 28 + x \\ or \: - x = 28 - 30 \\ or \: - x = - 2 \\ x = 2

The value of X is 2.
