Explanation:

2x - y = 11 -----(1)

x + 3y = -5 ------(2)

By

eliminating "y"

multiple equation 1 by 3 and equation 2 by 1

3×2x - 3y = 3×11

6x - 3y = 33 -----(3)

x + 3y = -5 ------(2)

add eqn (3) and eqn(2)

7x + 0 = 28

7x/7 = 28/7

x = 4
