What is the solution to the equation ſ x+1= 3x-79

X=-16
X=-4
x=4
X= 16

Answer:

X= 40

Explanation:

x+1 = 3x -79 reorganize. I combined 3 steps to get this:

3x -x = 1 + 79

2x = 80

X = 40

Not sure why that is not a choice!

Subtract x from each side

x-x+1= 3x-x-79

1 = 2x -79

Add 79 to each side

1+79 = 2x-79+79

80 = 2x

Divide by 2

80/2 = 2x/2

40 =x
