The numerator can be expressed as x^(4/5)

The denominator is x^5/4

we use the law of indices to finish this off

That would be;

x^(4/5) ÷ x^(5/4)

Using the second law of indices;

x^(4/5-5/4) = x^-9/20

Since the bases are now equal, then we equate the powers

Thus a = -9/20
