Answer:

The United States at first didn’t want the African Americans to join the army for the war

This was because of fear of them being compromised and their lack of expertise. They were however taken in to serve as only laborers and help out with some activities. They then became increasingly inevitable as time went on during the war which made them to be fully accepted and became

a full member of the army.
