What occurs when plates converge?

When an oceanic plate and a continental plate meet, the heavier, thinner oceanic plate is pushed under the lighter and thicker continental plate. This process is called subduction. When the oceanic plate meets the mantle it melts and pressure builds under the continental plate creating a volcano.
