I believe your answer is that the book finally ends with Jeanne all grown up and on a pilgrimage back to Manzanar with her husband and kids. Growing up with all that racism around her hasn't been easy, nor has it been easy learning to remember and talk about her experience at Manzanar, but Jeanne manages to do it.
