- Earth's gaseous atmosphere (which consists of water vapor, 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen, .9% argon) The water vapor helps regulate temperature and of course, oxygen is an essential aspect for us to breathe

- The availability of water

- Sunlight

- A constant seasonal cycle (caused by the tilt of the Earth's axis & a perfectly sized moon which maintains the tilt)
