A farmer picked 600 portugals and oranges in total to be sold to the market. There are 3 times as many oranges as there are portugals. How many portugals are picked by the farmer?

Thus;

Secondly there are 3 times as many oranges as there are portugals;

substitute ii into i

3r + r = 600

4r = 600

r = 600/4

r = 150

P = 3r

p = 3 * 150 = 450
