What does the simile, “ Soda attracted girls like honey draws flies,” mean? Why would that make the gas station have more customers than any other in town?(The Outsiders)

By saying “ Soda attracted girls like honey draws flies,” the gas station is basically saying that by drinking soda, you'll be more likely get a girlfriend, and all the men therefore want to drink soda so they can get a girl. (This is completely sexist by the way.)
