This has to do with numbers that are decimal.

To first number after the decimal point is Tenths

second is hundredths

third is thousands. etc

It means we rewrite a number in thousandths, millionths,and so on, to hundredths without performing any unjustifiable operations.

For example, we want to round

(1) 567.9812345 to the nearest hundredth.

567.9812345 = 567.98

(2) 2.9655 = 2.97

And so on.
