The doctor advised Jim to take antibiotics for five days to treat a bacterial infection. After three days, Jim started feeling better, so he stopped taking the pills. A week later, Jim again showed symptoms of a bacterial infection.

What reason could explain the reappearance of the symptoms?

The bacteria was not killed off. In those three days symptoms had stop because the bacteria was dormant. They must have been activated because Jim provided a suitable environment for their growth
