Dr. Phillips Thygeson, a former UCSF professor who helped discover the cure for one of the world's leading causes of blindness, has died at his Los Altos home. His death on July 27 followed complications from pneumonia. He was 99. He was born in St. Paul, Minn., and moved to Palo Alto in 1917 and graduated from Palo Alto High School.
