The length of one leg of a right triangle is 24ft and the length of the hypotenuse is 40ft what is the length of the other leg

24^2+b^2=40^2
B is the unknown leg so we have to figure that out by plugging in what we know into the format a^2+b^2=c^2
Which is 24^2+b^2=40^2
So 24^2=576
And leave the b^2
Then 40^2=1600
Your new equation is 576+b^2=1600
Subtract 576 from both sides so you get b^2=1,024 to find b you find the square root of 1,024 to get b by itself which now gives you b=32 this means that the length of the other leg is 32.0. Hope this helps! :)

Use formula a squared equals to c squared minus b squared

40^2-24^2 is 1024

Square root of 1024 is 32.0
