At a sale on winter clothing, Cody bought two pairs of gloves and four hats for $38. Tori bought three pairs of gloves and five hats for $50. What were the prices for the gloves and hats?

Write two equations you can use to solve the problem. Use to represent the price for each pair of gloves and use h to represent the price for
each hat.

Answer: The price for the gloves were $5 each and the price of the hats were $7 each.

Explanation:

2g + 4h = 38 solve by elimination

3g + 5h = 50

-3(2g + 4h) = 38(-3) -6g -12h= -114

2 (3g + 5h)= 50(2) 6g + 10h =100

0 + -2h= -14

h= 7

-6g -12(7)=-114

-6g -84 = -114

+ 84 +84

-6g =-30

g= 5
