This morning, Tammy's car had 15.03 gallons of fuel. Now, 4.9 gallons are left. How much fuel did Tammy use?

10.13 gallons

Here, you want to use subtraction

15.03-4.9

4.9 is that same as 4.90

So if we use a subtraction table...

15.03

10.13

This works because I have taken away a digit from the 2nd colum

(Where the 5 was) and I replaced it with a 4 (which isn't shown in my workings). This digit I took away I put next to the 0 in the 3rd colum so I could successfully take away way 10 from 9.

Although the answer is 10.13, remember to state the gallons! So the proper answer should be 10.13 gallons!
