Why did the southern states decide to secede after the election of 1860?.

Answer: The southern states decided to secede after this election because they believed their vote didn't matter. They felt like they didn't have a say in the government. As you can see in the image, the north had much more electoral votes than the south, so they didn't even stand a chance. And you can see that there was a clear divide from a political stanpoint.
