Explanation:

For problem 1, you subtract all of the exponent(s) for 4d^4 by adding -4 and 4 together to create zero, thus removing the exponent(s), then you multiply 3×4 and get 12d.

For problem 2, you just put m^-2 and n^3 together. You cannot combine the exponents or variables, so it would just look like m^-2 n^3

The ^ before a number means that it is an exponent.
