Answer: The tree diagram has been attached

b. 0.56

c. 0.38

Explanation:

Here is the complete question:

ben and tom each take a driving test. the probability that ben and tom will pass is 0.8 and 0.7, respectivley. a) complete the tree diagram (b) Work out the probability that both will pass their driving test. (c) Work out the probability that only one of them will pass their

driving test.

(a)The tree diagram has been attached.

P( Ben passes) = 0.8

P(Tom passes) = 0.7

P(Ben Fails)= 1-0.8 =0.2

P(Tom Fails)= 1-0.7=0.3

(b)Probability that both of them will pass their driving test will be the probability of each of them passing which will be:

P(both will pass)= 0.8 X 0.7 =0.56

(c)Probability that only one of them will pass the driving test will be either Ben passes and Tom fails; or Tom passes and Ben Fails. This will be:

P(Ben pass, Tom fails OR Tom pass, Ben fails)

=(0.8 X 0.3)+(0.7 X 0.2)

= 0.24 + 0.14

= 0.38

ben and tom each take a driving test. the probability that ben and tom will pass is-example-1
