Answer:

Surface area of a cube = 6 x s^2

Cube bottom = 6 x (3)^2 = 54

Cube top = 6 x (2)^2 = 24

Since top cube is covering part of bottom cube we have to subtract out area of bottom side and only leave in the area not covered by top cube.

area of cube not covered by top cube = 9 - 6 = 3

Surface Area of bottom cube (5 sides + left over area) = 5 (3)^2= 45 + 3 = 48

Surface Area top cube - bottom (5 sides) =5 (2)^2 = 20

Surface area of shape = 48 +20 = 68 sq cm
