Covalent compounds do not consist of ions. The compounds are molecular in nature and they do not conduct electricity. For a normal covalent compound, the conductivity is quite low if it ever conducts electricity at all.

Hence ionic compounds have very high electrical conductivities unlike covalent compounds.
