We do like:

log4 + log(x+2) = 1, and we know 1 = log10

so we write: log4 + log(x+2) = log10

or log[4(x+2)]= log10

then: 4(x+2)= 10

and x+2= 10/4 = 2.5

Finally we find out: x= 2.5-2=0.5

The answer is 0.5 or 1/2.
