Answer: B) The mantle is hotter than the crust.

Explanation: the heat energy is transferred to multiple layers eventually losing it's high temperature in each layer and the crust is the the surface layer and the mantle is closest to the core which is very hot and the heat projected from the mantle has time to lose it's heat when it's heat is transferred through the many layers of the earth.
