Truman Doctrine stated the U.S.A was to contain Soviet geopolitical expansion and communism. North Vietnam (communist) invaded South Vietnam, fearing that communism many spread to other nations and give the U.S.S.R more power, the U.S.A sent in troops starting the Vietnam war
