If a large quantity of herbicide, a chemical that is designed to kill weeds, were accidentally spilled into a large lake, it could endanger all of the organisms living in the lake. Since it is likely that the weeds in the lake act as a food source for organisms within that ecosystem, killing all the weeds would harm the population that feeds off them, and in turn the populations that feed off of them.
