There are many ways groundwater can be polluted. Such as,

Naturally-occurring (geogenic),

On-site sanitation systems,

Sewage and sewage sludge,

Fertilizers and pesticides,

Commercial and industrial leaks,

Hydraulic fracturing,

Etc.
