Answer: c = 6

To solve for c in the equation you see here,

our goal is to get c by itself.

Our first step will be to isolate the term

containing c which in this problem is 3c.

To isolate 3c, we have to get rid of the +5 by

subtracting 5 from both sides of the equation.

On the left, the +5 and -5 cancel out

and we are simply left with 3c.

On the right, 23 - 5 simplifies to 18.

Now we have 3c = 18.

To get c by itself, since it's being multiplied by 3,

we just divide both sides of the equation by 3.

On the left, the 3's cancel and we are left with c.

On the right, 18/3 simplifies to 6.

So our answer is c = 6.
