Plants undergo photosynthesis through sunlight(solar energy) and other compounds such as Carbon dioxide and Water to give Oxygen and Glucose. The herbivores eat the plants directly and are able to utilize a greater percentage of energy. Carnivores eat the herbivores and get energy but in a lesser form compared to the herbivores.
