The parent function is y=x^2 and vertex (0,0). In the graph shown, the parent function is moved the the right one unit and up two units. To get the parent function to move to the right a unit you have to put 1 in parenthesis, and decide if it needs to be positive or negative. Even though it might seem weird, if you are going to the right it needs to be negative, and if you are going to the left it needs to be positive. Also, you need to move the parent function up two units so you add two.
