Where does the energy come from to weight train? Why is this beneficial?

Weightlifters and many other athletes have to load an abundance of Carbohydrates into their digestive system before a maximum performance. This is commonly a big pasta or rice meal the night before a meet or a game. With the carbs pre-loaded in the intestines, the body can draw that energy as needed.
