(Please provide an explanation as well if you can, I'm pretty confused on how you would find this out on any other problems)

The mean of the test grades of 50 math students is 85%. Two students scored 10% on the test. If those outliers were removed, what would be the new mean?

Answer:

88%.

Explanation:

Total scores = 85 * 50 = 4250.

Take the 20 marks the 2 students scored away gives us 4230,

To find the new mean we divide by 48:

4230 / 48

= 88%.
