For starters, your question isn’t super specific, I can’t tell if you’re asking about total war strategies during the civil war or what, I hope I answered your question:

Allies used, “Island hopping” during WWII, this was the war in the pacific specifically.

AXIS powers (Germany) used Blitzkrieg.

Island hopping is precisely how it sounds, hopping from island to Island. After conquering one island, a base would be set up and then used for conquering another.

Blitzkrieg was an extremely fast but skinny line of tanks and foot soldiers, German tanks were very capable of rough terrain and hostile environments allowing for this strategy to be extremely effective at first, the problems began when allied units would intercept any part of the line and split up the oncoming attack.

Answer: Military strategy is a set of ideas implemented by military organizations to pursue desired strategic goals. Derived from the Greek word strategos, the term strategy, when it appeared in use during the 18th century, was seen in its narrow sense as the "art of the general", or "'the art of arrangement" of troops.
