There are 24 adult camels and 20 baby camels.

Method:
Let a represent the number of adult camels, and b represent the number of baby camels.
6a = 5b
44 = a + b

44 - a = b
6a = 5(44 - a) = 220 - 5a
11a = 220
a = 20
b = 44-20 = 24
