2. Why is the difference between the speed of 100m race (10.44 meters per second) and

5000 m (6.60 meters per second) so much larger than the difference in speed between
the 5000m (6.60 meters per second) and the 10,000 (6.34 meters per second)?

The difference between the speed of 100m race and 5000m race is larger because the difference between speed is more.

In the question given above we can see that in the first case the difference between both the distances that is 100m and 5000m is 4900m that is, (5000-100) . On the other hand the difference between the distance in the second case is (10000-5000) that is 5000m.

By comparing both the cases we can see that there is a difference of 100. Thus, we can say as the runner covers a distance of 100m it takes 10.44 m/sec and 5000m at 6.60m/sec , the speed difference is more.
