The upper rectangle has a length of 8 inches and a width of 4 inches.

The area of a rectangle
= (l)(w).

The area of the upper rectangle
=(8)(4)=32 in².

The middle rectangle has a length of
8-4=4 inches and a width of
10-4-1.5=4.5 inches.

The area of the middle rectangle
=(4)(4.5) = 18 in².

The lower rectangle has a length of 8 inches and a width of 1.5 inches.

The area of the lower rectangle
= (8)(1.5)=12 in².

The area of the composite shape
= 32+18+12 = 62 in².

The composite shape has an area of 62 in² which is option 3.
