I would say the Cold War and Border conflicts.

Explanation: The US and Russia were in the middle of the Cold War and America replaced South Vietnams dictator with a capitalist. Russia disliked this and so did Northern Vietnam. So while America was teamed with the south, Russia was teamed with the north.
