Farmer Brown and Farmer Green were talking over their fence one afternoon. Farmer Brown said, "If you gave me one of your cows, we would have the same number of cows." Farmer Green said, "If you gave me one of your cows, I would have twice as many cows as you." How many cows do they have in total?

Farmer Brown has 5 cows and farmer Green has 7 cows

Explanation:

Let the no. of cows farmer brown has be 'b'

Let the no. of cows farmer green has be 'g'

Given that,

B+1 = G-1

G = B + 2

G+1 = 2(B-1)

G+1 = 2B - 2

G = 2B -3

B + 2 = 2B - 3

2 + 3 = 2B - B

B = 5

G = B +2

G = 5 + 2

G = 7

Farmer Brown has 5 cows and farmer Green has 7 cows
