Texas played an important role in the space race, it was their job to be mission control so NASA could win the race to the moon. Without Texas in charge of mission control being side by NASA as the race went on, victory would not be possible. The job of a mission control is essential to have so it's guaranteed that the space flight is managed and kept secure from start to finish. Not to mention the major impact the space race had, it expanded the potential of technology and encouraged more efforts for launching satellites to explore space and learn more about what it contains.
