Allen has four times as many cards as Bob, and Jane has twice as many cards as Allen. Together, Allen and Jane have 468 cards. How many cards do Allen, Jane, and Bob EACH have?

Answer:

Explanation:

Allen=A

Bob=B

Jane=J

So what we know is

A=4B

J=2A

A+J=432

What we want to know is

A+J+B=?

So we need to solve for B

The easiest way would be to substitute into the A+J equation so

A+(2A)=432

3A=432

A=144

And we know that 4A=B so 4(144)=B thus B= 576

So 432+576=1008!
